Listeners will be drawn in as Liza Winthrop recalls her blossoming relationship with Annie Kenyon. After meeting at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the two teenagers awkwardly navigate their growing romantic feelings for each other. Actress Rebecca Lowman's graceful narration is perfect for this groundbreaking lesbian teen novel, first published in 1982. Her pacing is slow and deliberate, allowing listeners to fully absorb Liza's mixed emotions. Lowman varies her intonation slightly between the two girls, while seamlessly incorporating the Sicilian accent of Annie's family. This love story is tame by today's standards, yet teens will find much to appreciate in this fine production, which also includes an interview with the author. L.A.C.
